1 --- 2 title: "Refresh 006: Dr. jQuery" 3 date: 2008-04-28T00:00:00+00:00 4 draft: false 5 canonical_url: https://www.viget.com/articles/refresh-006-dr-jquery/ 6 --- 7 8 This past Thursday night saw the sixth meeting of [Refresh the 9 Triangle](http://refreshthetriangle.org/), the local chapter of the 10 Refresh tech network that Viget's helping to organize. [Nathan 11 Huening](http://onwired.com/about/nathan-huening/) from 12 [OnWired](http://onwired.com/) gave a great talk called "Dr. jQuery (Or, 13 How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the DOM)," and his 14 passion for the material was evident. In a series of increasingly 15 complex examples, Nathan showed off the power and simplicity of the 16 [jQuery](http://jquery.com/) JavaScript library. He demonstrated that 17 most of jQuery can be reduced to "grab things, do stuff," starting with 18 simple CSS modifications and moving to AJAX, 19 animation, and custom functionality. 20 21 To get a good taste of the presentation, you can use 22 [FireBug](http://www.getfirebug.com/) to run Nathan's [sample 23 code](http://dev.onwired.com/refresh/examples.js) against the [demo 24 page](http://dev.onwired.com/refresh/) he set up. You'll want to be 25 running [FireFox 2](http://www.getfirefox.com/), as FF3 Beta 5 26 gave me a lot of grief while I tried to follow Nathan's examples. 27 28 Big thanks to Nathan and to Duke's [Blackwell 29 Interactive](http://www.blackwell.duke.edu/) for hosting the event, as 30 well as to everyone who came out; maybe we've got you pictured on our 31 [Flickr](http://www.flickr.com/photos/refreshthetriangle/sets/72157604778999205/) 32 page. 33 34 Hope to see you next month.
